Parish Council Report: The report on the Parish Council Meeting on Thursday 30th January is now available. Click Here. Spurs Football Academy.The Result. Spurs 0 others 11; Epping Forest District Council planning committee recently considered the application to build a large training complex on a site opposite Abridge Golf Course. There were over 500 objections to this proposal from all the local parish councils, our Rural Preservation Society and many village residents. The councilors on the committee decided to refuse planning permission by 11 votes against to none in favour. It remains to be seen if Spurs will put in an appeal against the decision. Theydon Bois & District Rural Preservation Society: have reported the sad death of Ron Warren the Society's President. Ron has done a great deal over the years to preserve the character of our village and was well known to many village residents, he will be greatly missed. The society has also produced it's popular Program of Walks for 2003 starting on Sunday 6th April with a walk titled "A Forest for the Future". All walks start at 2pm from the Village Hall. They also will be hosting two free talks this year.
The title first talk is in July, on the night of the Society's AGM and
is by Ken Hoy and is titled " Epping Forest - Our
Heritage " The second talk on 10th October 2003 is titled"The history of Swan Upping" and is by the Bargemaster to the Worshipful Company DyersDavid Reed will show slides - there will be a coffee break - More slides and questions. THEYDON BOIS DRAMA SOCIETY: presents THERESE RAQUIN a psychological thriller by Emil Zola at The Village Hall on March 13th-15th. Tickets from Carol James 01992 812250 Theydon Bois Drama Society is keen to welcome new members in both an acting and non-acting capacity. We are particularly short of people to help with the lighting and sound for our shows. Our lighting rig is almost up to professional standards - but the help needn't be! As they say in the job adverts - 'no previous experience needed, training will be provided'. We also need extra help with costumes, props and scene painting. In adverts like this they always say, 'Come and join our friendly Society', but in this case it's true! If you would like to know more, please ring Graham James on 01992 812250. Underage Drinking: Epping Forest District Council and Essex Police have recently shown great concern with this problem. As a result you will see special notices in various establishments called - Licencees Against Drink Pushers. The Management and Staff of these premises support the campaign by EFDC and Essex Police to prevent alcohol from being supplied to underage persons. It goes on to say that any person suspected of buying alcohol to supply to underage persons could well at the discretion of the management not be supplied with alcohol for their own use. Underage drinking leads to crime - our local establishments are working in partnership with other organisations to make this district safer. They need your support and involvement to help them in their efforts. Vandalism and Anti-Social Behaviour Group However we need more people to join our group - why? simply because our Chairman has to step down in the near future - purely due to ever increasing work commitments. Later this year we will also loose our Youth Representative as she will be going to University. So if you feel that you would like to become involved please contact us via the Parish Office. You will be made welcome and your ideas listened to. At the present time we are desperately trying to increase facilities for the youth of our village. All of us feel that this is a vital part of our remit. So if you are a young person with lots of ideas about the lack of facilities for you please contact us. Anti-Social behaviour is not confined to youth - we all see it every day - rubbish dumping- litter - dog mess which people are too lazy to clear up(even though they can be fined) - parking on green verges and ploughing up the grass - parking across access for the elderly and young mums with push-chairs. These may seem minor things but they all contribute to ruining the quality of this village. So if you feel strongly about these things - please contact us. Cllr. In the meantime could they are advertising the following job vacancies: Full & part time Carers required Domestic & Kitchen assistant £5.25 - £6.25 required during school hours Please call 01992 812525 or e-mail Nostalgia Evening: Last year Theydon Bois Cricket Club hosted a 'Nostalgia Evening' at which many old photographs of the Village, and in particular of the Cricket and Football Clubs, were on display. Rarely seen footage of a Cine film shot in 1952 was also shown. The evening was enjoyed by all. As we have received many requests to repeat the evening, it has been agreed to stage the event again on Wednesday 2nd April starting at 8pm. The Cricket Club will again host the evening. However, this time it is hoped to expand the material on display. So if you have any old photographs or film of the Village from years gone by, that you don't mind showing, we would be very pleased to hear from you. There will be a public meeting in the Village Hall on Tuesday 25th February at 8.00pm regarding future medical provision in our village. An outline of the Strategy is below, for further details or to ask questions please attend the meeting. UPDATE ON MEDICAL PROVISION LIMES CENTRE AND THEYDON BOIS: Expansion of facilities, car parking and an on-site pharmacy at
the An extra 17 car parking spaces, 6 more consultation rooms and an in-house pharmacy will be under construction in the next few weeks at the Limes Medical Centre in Epping. For the past two years the Partners of the Limes have been working with the National Co-operative Chemists to secure an on-site pharmacy to provide patients with a "one- stop shop". With this comes the opportunity to expand and provide much needed consultation and treatment rooms for our current patients. "We have been successful in recruiting a new GP, Dr Juan Munoz, Practice Nurses Clare Crowley, Gujit Cholia and Susan Konizi and need additional parking and consultation space to help us to achieve both clinical and Government targets," said Debbie Thornton, Executive Director. "The practice now achieves the target of an appointment with a healthcare professional within 24 hours the vast majority of the time and has made significant improvements towards the 48 hour access to a GP." "We are finding that there is an increasing demand and we need to be in a position to meet the needs of our patient population." Work should be completed by the end of May 2003 and we apologise for any inconvenience during this time. Our car park will be closed except for emergency vehicles, disabled access and taxi drop off. Temporarily patients will be able to park in the hospital car park and walk across. No parking will be allowed on the road outside of the surgery. There will be no interruption in patient services, although some sessions may be held at our branch surgeries instead of the main site. Patients will be advised when booking their appointment where that particular surgery is to be held. Theydon Bois Surgery "The Limes Medical Centre is committed to continuing its services at Theydon Bois. At present we offer a minimum of three morning GP surgeries, usually four. We also have general practice nurse sessions, a travel clinic, physiotherapy, phlebotomy and a diabetic clinic. The Partners would like to increase the range and number of services and are working with the Epping Forest Primary Care Trust to try to attract new Government funding to enable this to happen. To date it has not been possible to attract this funding, but the current services will continue," Stated Debbie Thornton, Executive Director. All surgeries at Theydon Bois are by appointment only. It is hoped that the people of Theydon Bois will continue to support the village pharmacy as the expertise provided by Salish Dawda is valued by local people, and would be sorely missed if the business suffered as a result of the Limes Centre pharmacy. Meetings are held regularly at Thornwood Village Hall, Weald Hall Lane, Thornwood at 1.45 pm. Further information available from Delia Shelley, Club Secretary, on 01992 577036 Theydon Bois Tree Strategy: IMPROVING OUR VILLAGE Theydon Bois Tree Strategy is a project to improve our Village by planting of further street trees. This is being organized by Epping Forest District Council in co-operation with a committee comprising, the Parish Council, who have two members, representation from the Rural Preservation Society and our Tree Warden, Mrs Jane Turner.
Progress has been made during the past 12 months with a number of meetings to plan these improvements and to produce a professional report, which it is hoped will soon be printed and distributed to every household. This does depend on funds being available, contributions towards the cost have come from the District Council, the Parish Council, Rural Preservation Society and the Horticultural Society. It is hoped that the balance will come from sponsorship.
The planting plan and selection of tree species is being drawn up
by the Landscape and Arboriculturist Officer for District Council, when
completed the committee will then meet again to consult and finalise
arrangements. It is aimed to commence planting later in the year, or
aim is to further enhance our village of Theydon Bois for the benefit
of our residents. Wansfell College: The friends have sent us advanced notice of two of their events in the early part of this year: Quiz Evening at Wansfell College on Sunday 27 April, starting at
5 pm. Price £7, including fish and chip supper. Provide your own
drinks and nibbles. (Bottles of wine will be available for purchase.)
Tables of up to 8, but single or small group bookings are very welcome.

Mary's Church: Good News! At last, after almost 20 years of discussion and over
5 years of planning, work is beginning to demolish the old vestry, underpin
the north wall of the Church and build new vestries and meeting rooms
for church and community use. National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children: This is advance notice for this years LADIES DOUBLES TENNIS TOURNAMENT which is to be held on Tuesday, 20th May at Theydon Bois Lawn Tennis Club. Application Forms can be obtained from Pat Walter (81 3485) or Carole Risdon Tel: 01992 81 3724. Lunch is included. NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: This is the first of what I hope will be a regular feature on Neighbourhood Watch items of news for the Web Site. Usually, I will try to keep you up to date with facts and figures relating to the small amount of crime occurring in the Village, but this edition will be a plea for more residents to visit and use the mobile Police Bus. I make this request, as the number of people visiting the Bus is rapidly dwindling, and we do not want to lose this valuable Police presence, as High Beech and possibly Sheering have. There are other villages waiting for a turn on the rota. The Bus "visits" the Village Hall every other Thursday afternoon (in February the dates are 13th and 27th) between 1.30 PM and 3.30 PM It is staffed by ex PC Chris Caton, the civilian driver, and usually has a Police Officer in attendance. Even if you do not have any problems or queries for them, you may be given a cup of coffee, and you will be given a copy of Chris's Neighbourhood Watch newsheet. You can also get bicycles, mobile phones etc. security coded. So please go and call in and save Theydon Bois from losing the Bus. Bus: MOVING HOUSE MONEY Chris Caten The Mobile Police Unit will be in Abridge and Theydon Bois this month on the 13th & 27th February. Abridge 10am - 12 Noon & our village 1.30pm - 3.30pm Theydon Bois Friends of Cancer Research: The friends have reported another very successful year raising money for this worthy cause, during 2002 they raised a total of £9,9659.55. Their committee works very hard at planning and organising fund raising events throughout the year but stress that they could not have achieved so much without the generosity and support of the residents of this village. Their first fund raising event for 2003 will be a Quiz Night in the Village Hall on Friday 28th February. Theydon Bois Folk Country & Barn Dance Club: had a very successful second evening of their new season in the Village Hall on Tuesday 21st January with live music for the dancing with Dennis Smith & Chris Turner. The new program runs up to Easter and includes the usual dance nights plus events with live music AND on this coming Tuesday 11th February a display of Belly Dancing. For more details Click Here. Playground at Theydon: A programme of major renovation was completed in time for the Christmas Holidays. The Playground at Theydon Charity (PAT), which founded the the playground and manages it, announced that the centre frame and seesaw had been replaced, the climbing frame overhauled, the swings and slides refurbished and a new layer of shock absorbing bark chippings laid over the entire play area. The new activity frame is of special interest being of the latest design which caters for young children and particularly, disabled children. The equipment is quite attractive and harmonises well with it's surroundings and the adjacent village green. Several Mothers have expressed their strong approval for the renovation saying that it is the best small playground for miles around and a real asset for village and visitor children. The Month in Theydon Bois: We are glad to announce that the Web Site Team has been strengthened by the addition of Local History recorder Trevor Roberts. Trevor is well known about the village and is well qualified to review each month in our village as he has been compiling Local History Reports for the County and other archives for a number of years. We are sure you will find his report for the Web Site very interesting. It will be accessible from the link above and will be up dated each month. Primary School:For the New Year we have now added a page for the Village Primary school to the site which can be accessed from the Navigation Bar on the left of most pages. It contains much more details of the school and it's activities than the site for them that we link to from our Linkspage although this remains active. At present their page contains a navigable copy of the School Prospectus so that you can easily find important details about the school. St. Mary's Church - New Vestries: The council was formally advised by Richard Risdon, the Project Manager of the New Vestries Project, that the building work on the new vestries and meeting rooms should finally be starting in January. This is despite an additional cost amount of over £30,000 for underpinning the remainder of the North Wall. The Parochial Church Council has been hearten by the recent renewed giving from the congregation and other well-wishers in the village. Richard has pointed out that should anybody who has not contributed to the appeal fund and would like to they can contact the Church Treasurer, Alan Mathews. TeL: 01992 813376. Station House Disgrace: Despite efforts from the Parish Council and others there has not been any improvement in the deplorable state of the Old Station House which is still littered with decaying cars. London Underground have advised us that they hope to commence renovations to the property in the New Year. Lets hope is is a New Year resolution that is speedily kept. Primary School Success Story: Our village primary school has achieved a notable success. In the S.A.Ts report released recently in the national press, the school achieved 95% in all key subjects, English, Maths, and Science. The school came 29 overall in the County. Mrs Bonds the head teacher said "We are all extremely proud of the achievements of all our pupils and our staff. As with any success in education, it is transitory. I would like to add that these results are based on academic achievements and do not totally reflect all the work that goes into the School." On behalf of all parents of children at the school, Governors and other interested parties, well done Mrs. Bonds and your team. The Primary School will soon have its own page on our Village Web site to keep you up to date with events at the school. Shops in Theydon: Its taken a little while but our Shops & Services pages are at last up and running. Just click on Shops & Services in the Menu Bar at any time to see the shops listings. They are split into three sections; Coppice Row, Forest Drive (Evens) and Forest Drive Odds. The list contains information, contact numbers together with pictures of all the village shops. You can get further details on some of the shops by clicking on the More Details Button in the shops listing. If Shopkeepers have not given us details of their services and would like to do so we are happy to add them at any time. are to survive. Over 55?: Then this Club which was previously known as Theydon Bois Seniors Club and is now known as the over 55s Club in the village, is extending an open invitation to anyone in Theydon Bois to come along and join in their weekly activities. The Over 55 Club meet at the Village Hall, Coppice Row every Tuesday at 2.00 pm finishing about 3.45 PM You will get a cup of tea, biscuits and on special event days sandwiches and cake. Entertainment includes guest bands, singers, magicians, sing alongs and bingo. You will receive a warm welcome, meet friends and make new friends. Why not come along next Tuesday?
