13th December 2009 Village News and Parish Council Christmas Card Competitions:
Village News in conjunction with our Parish Council and Theydon Bois Primary School runs a Christmas Card competition every year with the overall winner being used as the Parish council's card for that year. Above are all the winners and runners up in the 2009 competition.

9th December 2009 Christmas Issue of Village News Now out:
Thanks to the generous support of all our sponsors from issue 68, our Christmas edition, Village News has been able to go full colour throughtout. The pdf version is now available to download (see above) and we should soon have the paper version back from our printers to deliver to all homes in the Parish before Christmas.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our volunteer distributors who work hard throughout the year to distribute Village News to you quickly. We are entirely reliant upon volunteers to distribute the magazine to every household in the village and they are an essential part of the Village News team. New volunteers are always welcome and the more we have the quicker we are able to distribute the magazine. We are particularly looking for new volunteers to cover Woodland Way & Slade End. 9th December 2009 Epping Forest Police District Security Alert:
Tony Ellis our local crime reduction officer has alerted us to this latest scam:
Intelligence suggests the residents of Blackhorse Lane, North Weald received a phone call on 05 Dec 2009 at approximately 11:00. A male stated to the resident answering the phone that your wife had been in a serious car accident and that you need to go to the hospital. The resident stated that his wife had just gone to walk the dog and that she couldn’t be involved in an accident because her car was still on the drive. The male then hung the up the line.
The residents believe that this was a scam so they would leave there property.
9th December 2009 FREE SECURITY ADVICE:
Epping Forest District Safer Communities Partnership has launched an initiative offering all householders free, independent, security advice. This service is provided by two officers who have over 60 years policing experience between them.

9th December 2009 Theydon Bois Rural Preservation Society East of England Plan Response:
The Society has attended the recent East of England Regional Assembly (ERRA) consultation meetings on the extension of The East of England Plan to 2031. They managed to successfully challenge a number of the worst proposals for our district that were in the original of ‘The Plan’ that was finally published in May 2008. Again the Society was unhappy that the scenario’s in this proposed extension to ‘The Plan’ as they do not offer sufficient protection for the Green Belt around our village and the amount of housing growth that is suggested is environmentally unsustainable. They made detailed answers to the consultation questionnaire and a copy the Society's response can now be found on the Society’s pages on this site, here.
9th December 2009 Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony:
Last Friday Evening (4th Dec.) a large crowd enjoyed mince pies and mulled wine while being entertained with carols sung by pupils from Theydon Bois Primary School and the Theydon Bois Singers. Villager of the Year - Norman Riley switched on the tree lights that seemed even better this year and then Santa arrived hauled by two festively dressed donkeys. All the children present all then had the opportunity to meet Santa and received a small present. This years event raised £450.00 for Essex Air Ambulance.
9th December 2009 TBAG Christmas Auction:
TBAG held a Grand Christmas Auction at the Village Hall on Thursday 3rd December. Everyone enjoyed themselves. A variety of cheeses were served and the wine flowed. The hall was packed to a capacity crowd, and this enabled the auctioneer for the evening, Phillip Gee, to secure £7,530 under the 'hammer' which included an amazing £440 for a case of pink Champagne with all proceeds going to St Clare Hospice. TBAG are very close to a total profit for the evening of £8,000 and have four more lots to auction via silent bid. For more information email:[email protected]
The money raised on Thursday, together with other cash raised and donated, will ensure that TBAG is in a position to contribute to legal and planning professional fees, should anything threaten to compromise our Green Belt!
4th December 2009 Village Website Starts New Youth Pages:
Ellie Bedwell has recently volunteered as the new Theydon Bois Youth Editor for the website. She is 16 and has lived in Theydon Bois all her life, having attended Theydon Bois Primary School. She is at present a Year 11 pupil at Davenant Foundation School. Over the years Ellie has been involved in many of the youth activities in Theydon such as Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and St. Mary's Church. The Village Website has felt for sometime that information for and young peoples own views are under represented in Theydon. With Ellie's and your help we hope to change that.
Using all her connections with the various youth groups Ellie has started as editor of our new youth pages. Ellie is though keen to get as much input from the young people in Theydon as possible. She say's "I want them to own and develop what I have started. I want young people to tell me what they want here and give me their news about what's happening with other young people in Theydon. They can have cool links to places on the Web, somewhere to advertise their group, and even pictures of themselves or the group, so everyone can see what you get up to! So let me know what excites you and what's important for young people in Theydon, our Youth News so far is here, but in order for me to keep this updated I need your regular reports and news in order for me to get your message across. For example, what have you or your organisation got planned for Christmas?! The simplest and easiest way to do this is to email me at: [email protected] "

An exciting new initiative offering free security advice has been launched by the Epping Forest District Safer Communities Partnership.
Residents considering making improvements to their security will be able to request a free survey from experienced officers by contacting the Councils Safer Communities Team.

14th November 2009 Drugs Factory Raided at Blunts Farm:
One of the largest ever illegal drugs factories in Essex has been discovered in Theydon Bois. Plants and equipment were found following the execution of a search warrant by Essex Police and the Serious Organised Crime Agency.
Four men were arrested in connection following the raid on this huge drugs factory and are being charged with "being concerned in the production of cannabis" following the seizure of 5, 000 of the plants in the warehouse on Blunts Farm on Friday 6th November. Police say the drugs have a street value of more than £1million. Two of the men, Hai Van Doan, 27, of no fixed address and Michael Horsnell, 44, of Tor Bryan, Ingatestone, Essex appeared in court on the 9th November before Harlow magistrates. The Two other men, a 54-year-old man from Wickford, and a 35-year-old man from Romford, who have been arrested are bailed to return on February 15.
'Farm owner Phil Newman told the Epping Guardian he had only just discovered about the police raid, as he has been away on holiday. He added that he did not know about the factory's existence and had just been renting the warehouse to a group of men. He said: "I didn't know anything about it. It's incredible the number of the plants. I can't believe it. They must have spent a fortune on it, there's lamps and vents everywhere. You have to see it to believe it."
Recently a Mr Michael Horsnell applied to EFDC for planning permission (EPF/17725/09) for 'Change of use of existing buildings to B1 (Light Industrial) and B8 (Storage) uses and alterations to provide flat roofs to open storage area.' Although the application was refused following objections from Theydon Bois & District Rural Preservation Society and our Parish Council (on Green Grounds) the buildings had already been completed converted and extended prior to the application being received by EFDC. The y are now are now the subject of enforcement notices as well as the police investigation.
14th November 2009 Theydon Villagers Young and Old at Last Sunday's remembrance Service:
14th November 2009 THE BUXTON TRUST PLAYING FIELD:
At the meeting in April 2009 the trust committee discussed the need to replace the double glazed windows and doors to the pavilion. Difficulty was, the funding for the project due to a depletion of Buxton Trust and Cricket Club funds. It was agreed to approach some members of the village to see if they would be prepared to make a donation toward the project. The appeal met with an immediate and positive response so much so that the new windows and doors are already in situ.
In contacting those villagers it was promised to protect their confidentiality. Nevertheless it is important for everyone to know of their kindness. So great appreciation to all of those very kind villagers for their generosity. One donation which can be mentioned is a grant of £1000 awarded by Essex Playing Fields Association. This was presented to The Buxton Trust by The Lord Petre at a ceremony on the 29th October 2009. Again, our sincere thanks to all who helped.

19th October 2009 “One Epping Forest” Questionnaires:
The Parish Council have received a bundle of Questionnaires which EFDC are inviting the public to complete to influence the way “One Epping Forest” (formerly the LSP) prioritises issues across the district. This is to aid completion of EFDC’s Sustainable Community Strategy Document. The Parish Clerk has some hard copies in the office. Responses can also be completed online at www.oneeppingforest.org.uk. Progress will be reported through the website and at One Epping Forest’s annual community conference. There is a list of priorities including for example “Protection of the Green Belt and the unique character of the district.” A range of consultation activities have been planned on the street, with youth and at markets apparently! So they are inviting residents to “Make their Voice Count”. There is a prize draw for completed forms offering £100 worth of shopping vouchers!
Closing Date for Questionnaires is 15th November.

19th October 2009 Anthea Cannell to leave St Marys:
It has recently been announced at St Marys that Anthea Cannell will be leaving St Marys on 7th February 2010 after 7 years to become Priest in Charge at St Peters Roydon, her home village. This will be another great loss to St. Mary's after the recent retirement of Colin Travers.
19th October 2009 Drama Society October Show:
19th October 2009 Theydon Wood Tree Planting:
Councillors Jacq Dodman, Mike Emmett and Sue Sowerby joined members of the Fo Guang Shan Temple many other volunteers including Theydon's Guides and Brownies planting 1,500 saplings of native broadleaved species at the Woodland Trust site on the Abridge Road on Saturday 10th October. The initiative is part of the Green Arc project which aims to protect countryside around London. The Woodland Trust bought the 79-acre site with funding from the Department for Communities and Local Government, the Countryside Agency, Forestry Commission and Green Arc initiative in 2006. Woodland Trust regional development officer John Brown said "Its development will pave the way for landscape-scale change to help protect more species, reduce pollution and enrich the environment of the millions of people that live on its doorstep."
The London Fo Guang Shan community has supported Theydon Bois wood by financing the purchase of 4,500 saplings over a two year period, this was the final planned stage of planting at the 37.6 hectare wood. The Venerable Chueh Yan, head of London Fo Guang Shan, said: "Today is a special moment for 'East meets West' - the first time a Buddhist community founded in the Far East has planted trees in the west; and the first time for London Fo Guang Shan to come from the West End of London to Theydon Bois in East London to plant trees. We want children and communities to experience being close to nature with woods and trees, and we want them to take action for the environment, ensuring woodlands are there for future generations to enjoy."

19th October 2009 EFDC Claim Low Council Tax increase in 2009:
A Low Council Tax Increase is Planned. Councillors got an initial view of next year's potential budget at the meeting of Epping Forest District Council's Cabinet on Monday 12 October 2009. Councillor Chris Whitbread Finance and Economic Development Holder outlined a cabinet committee report. He noted that despite the difficult national economic conditions, the Council remained in a relatively strong financial position compared to many other local authorities.

19th September 2009 Professor Bumm’s Story Machine, by The Black Sheep Theatre Co on Sunday 25th October 2009, starting at 3.00pm at The Murray Hall, Loughton.
This is a family event for mums and dads, grandparents, aunts and uncles with children aged 6 to 11 year old and is reviewed as a “A hit comedy show that will have the whole family crying with laughter.” The show was a sell-out in the West End and Edinburgh Festival runs and is described as ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?’ meets ‘Tiswas’.
